One of the things Megan and I love about our job is keeping tabs on up and coming designers. Last week I dropped by a MESTIZA pop-up at St. Frank on Sacramento street to check out their latest collection.
I was lucky enough to be greeted by designer/co-founder, Alessandra Perez-Rubio. In case you're not familiar with the brand, MESTIZA specializes in "ornate cocktail attire inspired by exotic locales" and incorporates traditional elements of namely Philippino dress.
What I noticed immediately about the collection was that it exudes Alessandra's genuine warmth and beauty. The detailed craftsmanship elegantly compliments easy to wear shift and trapeze silhouettes.
We also LOVE that the brand has partnered with the Habi Foundation where a percentage of sales are allocated to employ women in the Philippines to weave textiles. Every season MESTIZA will showcase the art of these women by incorporating textiles into a limited edition designs. Women helping women, that is something we can definitely can get behind!
Below are some of our favorite pieces from the collection (model shots courtesy of Mestiza.com).
