New Series: The Reality of Technology + Fashion Today

The Changing Face of Fashion- It's a topic that Megan and I spend a lot of time talking about. Nearly 50% of our clients ask us what we think of online clothing delivery services. And the honest answer it is: we don't know enough about the bulk of them to give a professional opinion.

So for the month of February, Megan and I will be setting out to unbiasedly answer the question of whether or not current online styling services are worth their weight... in cardboard boxes and shipping.  We will be testing out Stitch Fix, Le Tote, Rent the Runway, and a few others.

The way we shop today is a lot different from how we shopped 10 years ago. We live in a city obsessed with technology and challenging the norm.  For the past few years the merging of technology and fashion has been a hot topic.  It seems everyday our inboxes are filled with new apps or retail delivery companies tackling a new pain point for consumers--the question remains... are we moving forward, trading conveniences or just create extra headaches for ourselves?

We'll be reporting back on our experiences so be sure to follow our updates!

Our "Double Take" Shoot with Goorin Bros. Hats

We love hats. They're perfect for rainy days, bad hair days, sunny days... basically any day. So it's obvious why we had entirely too much fun collaborating with famous SF hatmakers Goorin Bros. again.

This time around we did a he said/she said story that features how to style the same hat for a man or woman. Three different hats, three distinct looks, all easy to wear. So ladies, the next time you are running late just grab your man's hat and rock it.

Here are some behind the scenes photos from the shoot. Click here to see the finished story.

Rainy Day Style: Chic Waterproof Boots

It's raining hard. So hard that Lola was unimpressed with her morning walk and Uber is probably super surging with the influx of riders trying to stay dry on the way to work this morning.

Kimberly and I both are hitting the stores for clients today, so there is no hiding from the rain. So we thought today would be the perfect day to post about some of our favorite rain boots.  Trust us... they've come a long way since your childhood Wellies (which we still adore!).

Sloosh boots hit our radar a few months ago and since then we've been obsessed. They add an urban edge to the typical rain boot with the right dose of chic style.

Sorel is our go-to for classic rain boots with a pop of unexpected pop of style. They also make great winter boots that keep your feet dry and cozy.

We love Chooka for a tall rain boot. They are comfortable, come if fun colors and have strap detailing.

Now, off to find our umbrellas!

Weekend Prep: Our Favorite SF Brunch Spots

It's a holiday weekend and they are predicting rain through Monday, which means lots of long brunches with friends. San Francisco is full of so much great food that sometimes it can be hard to decide where to eat. Here are our tried and true brunch spots that promise good food, great ambiance and guaranteed fun...

plow-restaurant-sf

1. Plow- This Potrero Hill staple serves seasonal, simple food. It's uber-popular and doesn't take resies, so you can expect a line. It's worth the wait, trust us.

Brenda's-Soul-Food

2. Brenda's Soul Food - Just forget about your resolution to eat better and dig in to Brenda's unbelievably good French soul food. Do yourself a favor and order the beignet flight. Yum!

Dobb's-Ferry

3. Dobb's Ferry - Our favorite Hayes Valley brunch spot, Dobbs offer unlimited mimosas, friendly servers and a relaxed atmosphere. Once you've finished your food, pop over to the attached bar next door for one last cocktail or walk across the street and check out the menswear at Welcome Stranger.

Universal-Cafe

4. Universal Cafe - Their organic menu is worth the hype and we love being able to sit outside on a sunny day. Plus they just added a Friday brunch for those of you looking to start your weekend early!

Berreta

5. Berreta - Cozy and always bustling, this mission Italian eatery makes a mean paloma. The meatballs and zucchini parmigiana are great for sharing. After brunch walk over to Azalia for a little shopping.

Happy Friday,

David Bowie - His Most Fashion-Inspired Looks

David-Bowie-Tribute

We've had David Bowie playing all morning in the Canvas office. I even made Kimberly promise to go home tonight and watch Labrynth (one of my favorite movies). A music legend, he has had a massive impact on the fashion world with his chameleon-like style. This is a great article on how he has influenced everyone from Lady Gaga to Gaultier.

Here are some of our favorite Bowie-inspired fashion covers from over the years. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

And the greatest Bowie song of all-time...

Books to Get You Inspired in the New Year

Looking for a little inspiration to kick off 2016? At Canvas we are huge readers and always seem to be in the middle of a good book. Here's what's on our bookshelves right now.

Megan's January Reading List:

My taste in books ranges from spiritual to total mindless chiclit (hey we all need to unwind at the end of the day). What I pick up to read always depends on my mood, so I usually have 3 books going at once.

Β

Kimberly's Reading January List:

Starting off the year with some female power players. Although, unintentional in the #boss theme (these have been on my radar for a while) it seems fitting for this month and this year. To balance out the focus, I picked up the drawing book as a gift from the Chronicle Book sale to encourage creative learning.
