The Canvas Holiday 2022 Gift Guide

A little Something Special for All with a Bay Area connection.

Wishing you all a warm holiday season! This year has seemed to move quickly as we return to holiday celebrations and gatherings.

As we prepare to celebrate and gift our loved ones, perhaps you are looking to shop with a little more intentionality this year. I’ve created a gift guide this year to help give a few outside-the-box suggestions. I’ve tried to keep most gifts local or available at shops in the Bay Area to help support small business owners. The past few years have been rough on retailers, and this season shopping with a little more intentionality can really help our local economy too.

I hope you enjoy these gifts—they’ve been curated with the hope of a little luxury at an accessible or treat-worthy price point. If you are looking for a little more guidance on gift-giving or want to explore your own style in 2023 feel free to reach out to me here.

Stay Stylish,

1.) The Birdie Personal Alarm:

What would an SF gift guide be without a tech device? I know this is not going to be a top gift guide item out there, but I think it’s important. This little noise deterrent was gifted to me this summer (thanks Mom!) and I’ve grown to love it. It goes with me on city days and early morning runs or hikes—pretty sure mountain lions are not Birdie lovers. I also like that it’s travel friendly and easy to add to a bag.

2.) Sweet SF Treats:

Tartine Manufactory is offering up sweet holiday treats like the beautiful gingerbread tiles pictured. You can plan ahead and place an order the night before to guarantee you get your goodies the next day.

3.) The Inside/out Shoe:

Start the holiday off on the right foot with a little cozy! These wool booties are designed for indoor/outdoor living. I’m a recent convert to slipper booties and how they keep the whole foot toasty. Also, these come in women’s sizes too :) and are sold by the local e-commerce site Huckberry.

4.) Freshen Up for 2022:

While scent is personal, if you are looking for a woodsy fragrance that works just as well in closets a living room check out this room spray or go all in with a Juniper Ridge body gift set. This Oakland-based company uses natural oils and sustainable harvesting processes to create the purest products and have been doing so since 1998.

5.) A Gardener’s Paradise in the City:

FloraGrubb nursery has been a long-time Canvas Styling favorite. If you are looking for a little something green for an avid gardner or someone looking to branch out, consider picking up a gift card to this local haven.

6.) A Treat for the Family Favorite:

Don’t forget your favorite Fido or Feline companion! They may need a little tlc this season too and Jefferey’s Natural Foods is a great place to spoil them. With two shops in the city, this is more than a pet food shop but a community center for urban pet lovers. While these toys will likely be demolished in moments, they are too cute to pass up on.

7.) A Little Magic and Wonder:

The holidays in the Bay Area are a great place to be a kid or a kid at heart. I’m especially partial to the SF Nutcracker performance since the ballet made its US debut here. This book highlights the back story of the production and this sweet ballet toy set is available at Fiddlesticks in Hayes Valley.

8.) Add a Sprig of Good Cheer:

Pay patronage to your local florist or visit the Dubose workshop of Ampersand and pick up a holiday bloom for your host or hostess (or yourself). Don’t miss their festive mistletoe posey to add a little more merry at home.
